Comparison Essay

There is one thing that the song Praying and Fahrenheit 451 have in common. They both deal with losing a relationship. Montag loses Mildred in Fahrenheit 451 while Kesha loses a boyfriend of some sort. Anyway that’s not the point. There are some major key differences that I will be talking about. So let’s get right in to the differences. (I’m getting word you need to be cool about fire safety)

So one key difference is one is realistic fiction. Montag feels fake pain, while Kesha feels real pain. Since Montag is a fictional character he doesn’t feel real pain. Kesha on the other hand is real so she had to go through the horrible trauma that is breaking up with your boyfriend or girlfriend.

Another Key difference is that Kesha hopes the man she broke up with is doing well. Montag on the other hand just doesn’t care. Kesha feels sad but she wants the best for the man, and wishes him well. While Montag doesn’t care whether or not Mildred is happy or doing well. One person still cares for the wellbeing of the boyfriend.

Both texts share the same idea that pain hurts. For example Montag and Kesha both lost companions. Similarly Kesha goes through some pain, trying to get over their breakup. This makes me think that they both went through pain in their lives. I think an important difference is that one is real and one is fake. So the real person feels real pain while the other feels fake pain. What’s true in both texts is that moving on and dealing with pain makes life easier.

My claim is, in Fahrenheit 451 and Praying we learn if you deal with pain life will be easier for you.

Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury, took place in the present time period. It is unclear where it takes place. Montag is a man who lives in a bad town. It’s a bad town because books are illegal and nobody really goes outside. He met a girl named Clarisse. Clarisse asks Montag if he is happy. Montag starts to wonder if he is happy. He lives in a town where no one is exactly happy. So Montag is on a quest for happiness and to find joy in his life. Montag doesn’t seem happy with his life. A main theme in the story is knowledge is power.

In the begging of the story it shows people on their couch watching television, not exploring the their own beautiful world. There are only two people who aren’t doing this. These people don’t sit around and do nothing, they go outside expand their minds, while other people are in their house brainless. This text evidence supports the theme in the beginning of the story.

The author Ray Bradbury develops the theme in the middle of the book in different ways. In the middle of the book Montag, the main character, steals a book. He reads it to his wife. She was shocked as to Montag reading a book.

Montag’s wife is shocked that he would steal an illegal book. Montag later leaves to avoid the firemen. This text evidence supports the theme in the middle of the story.

Ray Bradbury supports the theme knowledge is power in the end of the book in some ways. At the end of the book Montag finds a civilization where people love to read books. They don’t watch tv what so ever.  This makes Montag happy, because he finally finds people who aren’t brainless fools. Montag planned to move somewhere to become a book writer. This text evidence supports the main theme.

This essay concludes my opinion on the main theme in Fahrenheit 451. The main theme in the book is knowledge is power. All of the paragraphs were text evidence from the book, to support my opinion. This theme is the main theme in this book. Though there are more themes in the book, I chose this theme because it seems to make the most sense. People need to read more books, instead of watch tv all of the time. This concludes my essay.
